Analysis model: Young people not in employment, education or training

Basis of the model

  • The model is based on activity over a full calendar year and is thus more precise in the way it encompasses young people not in education, employment or training.
  • It is based on the total population of young people (all young people aged between 16 and 25 registered in the Swedish population register). This is in contrast to the ordinary labour market statistics that are based on the sample survey known as the Labour Force Survey (AKU). LFS/AKU is the basis of European comparisons of youth unemployment rates and NEET statistics.

For inclusion in the group, the individual should not have for a full year:

  • been in receipt of study assistance, be registered on a course or be studying at SFI (Swedish for Immigrants)
  • had income over one base amount (SEK 42,800 in 2011)
  • been commuting to Norway/Denmark for work
